Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn't a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
