Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
