Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn't a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
