Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many entrants often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone's, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free's up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don't count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there's no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, after a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing array of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have several individuals trying for the high, along with many shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it's not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
