Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It's a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi/lo starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where some players can get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone's hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of everyone's, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same concept in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more complex, but certainly free's up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at first, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the base subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming range of wagering choices and because you have many individuals battling for the high, along with many battling for the low. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
