Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi/low starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants can get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone's hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It's the strongest hand out of every player's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in just about all poker games.

The lower hand is more complex, but really free's up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there's no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.
