Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more round of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players often get confused. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone's hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It's the strongest possible hand out of everyone's, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in nearly all poker games.

The low hand is more complex, but really free's up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there's no low hand available, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at the outset, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of the game simply enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi low offers an amazing collection of betting choices and seeing that you have many players shooting for the high hand, and a few trying for the low. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it's not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
