Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
