Internet poker has become world famous lately, with televised championships and celebrity poker game events. The games popularity, though, stretches back quite a bit further than its television ratings. Over the years several variants on the earliest poker game have been developed, including a few games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely resembling chemin de fer than traditional poker, in that the gamblers wager against the dealer rather than each other. The succeeding hands, are the established poker hands. There is little bluffing or other types of bamboozlement. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to ante up just before the croupier saying "No further wagers." At that instance, both you and the bank and of course all of the other gamblers acquire five cards each. Once you have seen your hand and the casino's 1st card, you have to in turn make a call bet or accede. The call wager's amount is akin to your original ante, meaning that the stakes will have increased two fold. Abandoning means that your bet goes instantly to the casino. After the bet comes the face off. If the house doesn't have ace/king or better, your wager is returned, with a figure equal to the initial bet. If the dealer has a hand with ace/king or better, you succeed if your hand is greater than the bank's hand. The bank pays cash equal to your original bet and fixed odds on your call wager. These odds are:

  • Even for a pair or high card
  • two to one for two pairs
  • 3-1 for three of a kind
  • four to one for a straight
  • 5-1 for a flush
  • seven to one for a full house
  • 20-1 for a four of a kind
  • fifty to one for a straight flush
  • one hundred to one for a royal flush
