Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
